Design Management Requirements for Hardware Description Languages

چکیده

This paper discusses the relationships between HDL's and design management services commonly found in EDA environments and frameworks. By using VHDL as a case study, it is demonstrated that HDL's are not neutral with regard to these services. The paper shows that the exibility in using a language together with the widest possible range of design management mechanisms should be a major language requirement. The paper indicates VHDL extensions and modi cations that follow in this direction.

From UML to HDL: a Model Driven Architectural Approach to Hardware-Software Co-Design

The SMU Co-Design Project is an effort to target the problem of hardware/software co-design via an open source laboratory for studying hardware-software integration. The project focuses on the use of Model Driven Architectures (MDA) to define high-level modelbased system descriptions that can be implemented in either hardware or software. Utilizing component and state diagrams based on the Unif...

Applying Pointer Analysis to the Synthesis of Hardware from C a Dissertation Submitted to the Department of Electrical Engineering of Stanford University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

With the advances in Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology, the design of digital circuits is becoming more and more as the development of software. Hardware is modeled using Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) very much as software is described using programming languages. Synthesis tools are used like compilers to map these HDL models into hardware. However, modern systems, which consist o...

A Formally Based Framework for Supporting Design and Analysis of Asynchronous Hardware Systems

We describe the Rainbow hardware design framework for supporting the design of asynchronous systems using Sutherland’s Micropipeline design philosophy. The framework offers a range of user-level description styles for asynchronous systems, in order to meet the requirements of hardware engineers. Full interworking between the component sub-languages is supported, enabling the construction of mul...

A novel datatype architecture support for programming languages

In programmers point of view, Datatypes in programming language level have a simple description but inside hardware, huge machine codes are responsible to describe type features. Datatype architecture design is a novel approach to match programming features along with hardware design. In this paper a novel Data type-Based Code Reducer (TYPELINE) architecture is proposed and implemented accordin...

Integrating Hardware Description Languages and Proof Systems

Hardware description languages (hdls) have been used in industry since the 1960s to document and simulate hardware designs. Simulation of hdl descriptions is very useful to find design faults without the need to manufacture the design. A well known drawback of simulation, however, is that the number of input combinations (or test vectors) increases exponentially. For modern designs, it would ta...
